NHS & Healthcare Sector

Every single one of us relies on the NHS and other healthcare providers – at some point in our lives.

CILS have helped clients in this sector by providing reliable and innovative solutions. The main challenges are, usually, to reduce their carbon footprint, cut expenditure on energy and maintenance, prevent the loss of expensive equipment and improve the comfort of both staff and patients.

This sector can be an especially unpredictable working environment. Our delivery teams know that communication with the site staff, expeditiousness and adaptability are key to a project’s success.

Smart NHS and healthcare buildings

CILS has transformed hospital wards, operating theatres and treatment centres. We install and commission Enlighted IoT – a smart building controls system, approved for NHS clients.

We’ve upgraded the lighting to smart LED with advanced lighting controls; we’ve implemented the IoT ‘intelligent ceiling’, (which includes medical equipment tracking), in almost any healthcare environment. All in addition to huge energy savings and moving our clients closer to net zero.

Among the many benefits of having a solid, smart infrastructure is the facility to collate real data to optimise and improve building management in the future.

Lower energy & maintenance costs from lighting

Hospitals and other medical facilities can reap significant energy savings from optimising their lighting.

An upgrade to LED lighting, combined with advanced IoT controls and smart sensors, constantly adjust light levels according to occupancy, task and daylight settings.

Reduce the need to frequently change light bulbs with the installation of new, long life LED lighting.

Know where to find your critical equipment

Expensive medical equipment goes missing every year; for example, a syringe pump required for chemo is around £1000 each.

Hospital staff can spend about 20 min each shift, looking for equipment they need to do their work.

With IoT asset tracking enabled, you can locate tagged equipment precisely, at any time.

Improve the environment for frontline staff & your patients

The LED lighting is flicker free and most fittings have a universal glare rating (UGR) of 19 or less – reducing eye strain, improving concentration levels, and therefore improving the working environment, staff output and patient wellbeing.

Embedded smart sensor technology guarantees that light levels are calibrated to the task at hand. And in more relaxed settings, to levels that feel most natural to the eye.

Space utilisation in real-time

Identify occupied/unoccupied areas for energy savings, safety and use data-driven information to determine the best use of space.

Using smart sensors, plan cleaning schedules to suit the use of space and occupancy. Data can also be used to contact trace occupants or locate missing equipment.

Gather valuable data-driven insight

Smart sensors and IoT systems go way beyond reducing energy consumption. Actual energy use measurement, basic heat-mapping, real-time location services, asset tracking – all can improve security and provide valuable data for building management analysis.

This is a solid basis for data-driven decision making, for future upgrades and building optimisation.

Save on heating and cooling

Integrate decarbonised heating systems such as air source heat pumps to reduce your CO2 emissions. Realise significant savings using smart sensors, to automatically reduce heating or cooling in unoccupied spaces.

These additional benefits can be delivered via software rather than hardware changes. Heating controls, for example, can be accessed via a mix of Enlighted plug load controllers for local electric fan heating and smart TRV controls for radiators.

Decarbonised heating

Integrate decarbonised heating systems such as air source heat pumps, to reduce your CO2 emissions.

Solar PV

Generate your own electricity to lower the cost of energy and demonstrate that your healthcare facility is committed to achieving net zero.
